Two murders were recently attempted in New Port Richey and both of them were fortunately unsuccessful.  The first murder attempt was by Steven Ramoni, a man in his late fifties.  Ramoni, 58 to be exact, is said to have swung the screwdriver at a man that he apparently told one witness he was going to kill.  On June 15th he was arrested and charged with aggravated assault using a deadly weapon.  The victim in the other case, however, had to survive open fire from a gun.

Another Port Richey man has been charged with attempted murder.  The man is said to have opened fire on a man that came into his home.  The visitor was apparently there to collect money, prompting the attack.  Kevin Newkirk, the victim, told police that he went to the attackers home to get money owed to him.  While there the resident, Victor Guzman, pulled a gun on Newkirk and shot him in the stomach.  He ran out of the house only to be chased by the assailant who would shoot at him five more times as he ran down the street hoping to escape.

Officials say that two witness other than Newkirk himself confirmed that it was Guzman who shot Newkirk aggressively.  Since the incident Guzman has been arrested and the revolver involved in the shooting has been recovered along with some of the bullets.  While it is lucky that both victims survived, Police don’t like hearing about attempted murders.  People like Guzman and Ramoni put their citizens in danger, and they’ll do everything they can to protect them, but what if they’re not there.

Steven Ramoni was arrest was listed and Guzman was arrested at his home around 1:30 a.m. the Tuesday following his crime.  These two are not the first criminals in New Port Richey and they won’t be the last.  Police are continuing their search for public safety, protection, and general well being.  Police work hard, to help their people.
