On Wednesday October 16, New Port Beach police arrested a man on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance. According to police reports, officers stopped a man near Wavecrest Drive and Sandpoint Way. The man is around 43 years of age.
Police stopped the man at 12:27 PM, and allegedly found a controlled substance on him. He was subsequently arrested. The man's bail was placed at $20,000.
This bail figure might seem relatively high, but substance possession charges are usually not taken lightly. While small amounts of softer drugs are sometimes dealt with in a fairly demure fashion, investigators do not take kindly to larger amounts. For that matter, police have been cracking down on even small amounts of allegedly soft drugs.
Many of the stipulations that people talk about are not actual elements of the law. While laws do have varying levels of severity in some jurisdictions, a possession conviction of any type can hurt employment prospects.
This was not the only narcotics arrest that police officers had to deal with, however. There were two arrests at 8:05 on Tuesday October 15. These arrests occurred near the South Pelican Hill Road area.
One of the two men was from Brea and is 27. He was booked on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance. The other was from Whittier, and he is 26 years of age. He was booked on suspicion of possession of narcotics paraphernalia.
Investigators have not yet stated what sorts of substances they were working with when it came to these cases. Nevertheless, the type of drug found on an individual can sometimes change the way that a case is heard. Certain drugs might be considered more serious in some cases. As a result, that information may become important in the coming investigation.
While none of these cases actually mentioned whether or not the individuals had drugs with the intent to sell them, this can also change a court's opinion of a suspect. Drug addiction is often viewed differently than dealing is.
